Beneath about two feet of jungle brush and soil lies Structure 1 of Chau Hiix - a temple Pyramid of the Lowland Maya of central Belize. Decorative artifacts were found at the top of the pyramid, and several layers of pots were dropped at its base, all as sacrifice. The pyramid was built beside a giant lagoon so that boats could dock on the east of the pyramid. The top of the pyramid would have been visible from the main structure at Lamanai, and likely from Altun Ha.
